Executive Vice President of Institutional Relations

Matt Krause

Matt Krause serves as Executive Vice President of Institutional Relations at Basin Ventures, where he leads the firm's institutional outreach, limited-partner relationships, and coordination for its institutional Horizon Fund initiatives. An attorney with nearly two decades of legal practice, Matt pairs a deep command of law and regulation with one of the most extensive business, political, and capital networks in Texas. Prior to Basin, he worked in business development at Vista Bank, bridging the legal and financial sides of the kinds of transactions he now brings to institutional investors.

Matt spent a decade in public office as a member of the Texas House of Representatives, representing the 93rd District from 2013 to 2023; five terms serving the Fort Worth-Arlington area, where he became one of the legislature's recognized conservative voices. That tenure built durable relationships across the entire state including those in the private-capital landscape that now anchor Basin's institutional effort. He currently serves as Precinct 3 Commissioner on the Tarrant County Commissioners Court, elected in 2024 to represent northeast Tarrant County.

Matt was a member of the inaugural class of Liberty University School of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude and third in his class, after earning his undergraduate degree from San Diego Christian College. Born in Tyler, Texas, he and his wife, Jennie, are the proud parents of five children and reside in Keller, TX, where they are active members of First Baptist Church of Keller.
