Every number in Oil & Gas, Explained comes from a free, public US government source. Here is each one, how often it updates, and exactly what we do to it.
| Series | Publisher and series ID | How often | History used | Where it appears |

| Henry Hub natural gas spot price | EIA, RNGWHHD | Weekly average of daily prices | From January 1997 | Guide home, Chapter 1 |
| US field production of crude oil | EIA, WCRFPUS2 | Weekly estimate | From January 1983 | Guide home, Chapter 2 |
| US dry natural gas production | EIA, N9070US2 | Monthly, about two months after the month | From January 1997 | Guide home, Chapter 2 |

EIA is the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The decline chart in Chapter 3 is an illustration, not data, and uses none of these series.
Bedrock, Basin Ventures' data system, downloads the EIA series through the EIA's public data service every Friday and the CPI from FRED each month. Every download is recorded with the date it was taken, so when the EIA revises a past number, both versions are kept and the pages use the latest one.
Bedrock refreshes the figures on these pages every Friday, after the EIA's weekly release. They were last refreshed on October 20, 2026, and each page says what date its numbers cover.
They are not a forecast and not investment advice. They describe what has happened in public data and explain what tends to move it. They contain no Basin Ventures fund data and no data from paid vendors.
